Official Contacts and Record Routes
Use the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department contact that matches the request. The headquarters number is not a countywide non-emergency dispatch line. For an emergency, call 911. Station and city dispatch contacts depend on where the event occurred.

The correct path depends on whether a person was just booked, remains in county custody, has been released, or is serving a state or federal sentence:
- For a mugshot, booking record, roster result, or released record, start with the Los Angeles County records hub and follow its official LASD request steps.
- For live custody or release information, call the inmate and custody line or use LASD’s official Inmate Information Center. This site cannot verify either status.
- For a very recent arrest, check the arresting agency first. LAPD and Long Beach Police can initially hold people in city jails before a transfer to LASD.
- For a warrant, use the court or law-enforcement route described on Most Wanted Fugitives. Do not rely on an old wanted notice as proof of current status.
- For the final outcome of a criminal case, consult Los Angeles Superior Court. Booking charges are accusations and can be changed, dismissed, or resolved differently.
- For a person sentenced to California state prison, use the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation offender search.
- For federal custody or immigration detention, use the official Federal Bureau of Prisons or ICE locator rather than a Los Angeles County jail tool.
Call before visiting. Hours, appointment rules, fees, and access procedures can change, and a public-record response deadline does not guarantee the date a record will be produced.
